Alliances example
The Disney Corporation is an example of successful alliances. Since the earliest days of the company there have been strategic alliances with key partners. In 1938 Disney purchased oscillator equipment from Hewlett Packard (HP) to solve some technical issues with sound design for the film Fantasia. This has led to a long-term partnership of the two firms. Disney has used HP solutions for a number of technical problems including providing translations for theme park guests and helping Imagineers develop an advanced space flight ride (HP, n.d.).
Disney has also partnered with Siemans USA since 2005 to develop innovative technology solutions in theme parks around the world and other ventures. This collaboration includes the ABC Studio SuperSign in Times Square in New York City. ABC is a part of the Disney Corporation and the Times Square sign with the Sieman's logo is very useful exposure for the company (Siemans, n.d.).
In these cases all parties benefit from the collaboration, Disney gains useful solutions to unusual problems and the technology companies can stretch their capabilities to develop them. In addition, most firms welcome the public association with Disney, a company that has a positive public profile.
